For her new creation, choreographer Nina Santes summons the possibility to become a witch. Hymen Hymne originated form a wish to continue her work of embodiment of marginal, hybrid, “other” bodies, which started with her solo Self made man in 2015.
Beyond witchcraft, the project invokes witches as a future, a potential, a social construct. The qualified or self-proclaimed one, the rejected one or the one who deliberately chooses to be an outcast, the devious, dangerous one, the one who takes care of darkness, takes hold of her body and her voice to cast a spell on established order.
Based on ecofeminist movements from the late 70s in the USA, and the revival of the witch figure as a subversive symbol, Hymen Hymne will be a spoken, sung and danced show, halfway between documentary work and magical-political ritual.
